How will my joining make a difference?
This is a platform for the community.  Joining up as a member means you have a chance to be heard. It means having a voice and a vote in matters affecting the community in an organised and credible structure. The association has been set up specifically to ensure that individuals and families of the Yeshivah Community have a platform for advocacy and can have a say in what initiatives and structures are created for the betterment of our community's future.

What are my rights as a member?
We have chosen to use the Associations Incorporation Reform Act 2012 Model Rules for our Constitution.  Every member has the right to vote and to nominate board members.  All members have access to a constitution, must be informed of the dates of elections and of Annual General Meetings (AGMs), and Special General Meetings (SGMs). Members have a right to lodge complaints and have them heard and dealt with in an appropriate fashion.

Who can apply to become a member?
There are many people who fall into the category of 'Parents & Friends of Yeshivah Melbourne'. You might be a Yeshivah-Beth Rivkah Staff Member, Parent, Congregant, or Alumni.  If you are, and you want to be involved in shaping the future of our community, we encourage you to apply.

Is the board self appointed?
No. It was necessary for an initial board to be appointed in order to establish the organisation. This is consistent with the usual practice for setting up new organisations before it has any formal members. The law and our Rules require us to hold our first Annual General Meeting (AGM) within 18 months of the establishment of the Association. After this,an AGM must be held every 12 months. Each member will have a vote at any AGM or other general meeting.

When I join the Association am I doing so on behalf of my family or can my spouse and adult children join too?

Memberships are on an individual basis. We value the views of each member of a family and encourage each family member to express their views. Each person can and should join up in his or her name to be a member.

Who provides guidance to Parents and Friends of Yeshivah Melbourne on matters of Halacha and Chabad Hashkafa?
We consult with Rabbi Mordechai Gutnick and Rabbi Yakov Barber.

I have some viewpoints I would like to share. How do I go about it?
Please email us with your ideas. We would love to hear from you. One of our officers will always reply to you in a a timely manner.

How will my privacy be protected?
The association is required to maintain and control the membership register. Ordinarily, a member of the association will be able to inspect the register of members by request.
However, the law allows a member to request that access to their personal information be restricted to the secretary and other committee members (including the office bearers) or the Secretary or specific committee members.
Please contact the Secretary or other committee members if you would like more information about privacy.
